Exploring Public Transport - France, Germany

By: Paolo Matzi

With millions of tourists, students and business travelers visiting Germany and France every year, the system of public transport France Germany has become an essential part of both the cultures and the economies. Rental cars are often expensive in both countries. Therefore, both boast economical mass transit options. With just a little effort to learn the system, the trains, buses and trolleys of France and Germany can get you where you wish to go.

When you choose to ride the public transportation system in Germany, you will experience one of the best networks of trains, buses and streetcars in all of Europe. Large cities, small towns and many stops in between are serviced by high speed trains, buses and trolleys. By utilizing public transportation, you eliminate the stress of driving through unfamiliar areas and the chance of getting lost. You can appreciate the passing scenery in comfort and with a little foreknowledge and planning, get to your destination after a comfortable journey.

Choosing the railways is a popular choice in France, for both local and visitor alike. If you are going to a small town or a rural destination that does not have a train station, a bus line will most likely run from the nearest railways line. In Paris, the subway is called the Metro and is often the preferred method of transportation. Books of ten tickets are sold at the station or a pass can be purchased that is good for a set period of time.

Renting a private car in Germany or France will subject you to the possibility of traffic, which can be maddeningly slow. Searching for a parking spot, or paying to park, can add expense to your journey and make you lose valuable time. Also, filling up the tank and purchasing insurance are other factors if you choose to drive. All of this can be avoided by using the trains or subways.

Destinations all over Europe can be reached by high speed French and German railways. These trains have sleep compartments for over night journeys and need to be booked in advance. Reservations can be made over the Internet.

Travelers report enjoying this portion of their journeys quite a bit since they can pass an enjoyable evening chatting with others in transit and wake in the morning, refreshed and ready for the new day.

Public transport France Germany can help make your trip truly memorable. It may be easier and less expensive than renting a car and you might meet more locals and see more of the sights with someone else doing the driving. It takes a little effort to learn the system, but then you are free to move around the countries like a pro.
